Ans : Dell saved one and two cents at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one’s cheek burned with silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied.
2) What is ‘quite laughter’?
Ans : Quit laughter mean common laugh, not laughing to others.
3) What are the causes of soil erosion?
Ans : Large run of surplus water, slope of land, removal of the natural protective coat of vegetation, the existence of ruts along which the water can flow with rapidly gathering momentum, and the absence of any checks of such flow are the causes for soil erosion.
4) What measures can be taken to check soil erosion?
Ans : The terracing of the land, construction of bunds to check the flow of water, the practice of contour cultivation and the planting of appropriate types of vegetation are the measures that can be used to check soil erosion.

Ans : Mr. Thakar approached Mr. Tagde to request him to withdraw the report and convince him the situation.

Ans : Low self esteem seeks the safety of the familiar and undemanding.

1) Conservation of water.
Ans : Water is the basis of all life. It is necessary for all living beings, so conservation and utilization of water is fundamental for human welfare. Much of Indian agriculture depends on seasonal rainfall. The harnessing of our rivers, vast areas of land could be turned into fertile and prosperous country by courageous and well planned action
2) What were the complaints listed by Mr.Tagde against the boy in his report?
Ans : The boy had spoiled benches in the classroom by scoring them with a razor blade. He made the blackboard useless by scratching on it with piece of tin .He broke several windowpanes by throwing stones at them. Many girl students have complained of having their note books and pen stolen. 2
3) Six pillars of self-esteem.
Ans : 1. Living Consciously : Being conscious or aware of reality. Acknowledging reality and being responsible to it, and for your actions or inaction. Having your beliefs and values congruent with your actions. To act on your beliefs and values, to admit mistakes and not avoid uncomfortable situations or putting thing off that should be dealt with.
2. Self-Acceptance : Self-esteem is something that we experience, while self-acceptance is something that we do.
Self-acceptance is the first and most important step to building self-esteem. Self-acceptance is a refusal to be in an adversarial relationship with oneself.
3. Self-Responsibility : To take responsibility for your choices and actions and attainment of your goals.
You are responsible for the achievement of your desires, your choices and actions, the level of consciousness you bring to your work and relationships, your behaviour with other people, how you prioritize your time, for the quality of your communications, your personal happiness, for accepting and choosing the values by which you live, and for raising your self-esteem.
4. Self-Assertiveness : Self-assertiveness means honoring your wants, needs, and values and seeking appropriate forms of their expression in reality.
It is the willingness to stand up for yourself, be who you are openly, to treat yourself with respect in all human encounters.

5. Living purposefully to live purposefully is to have goals and to take action towards achieving them. To be productive on a regular basis. “Productivity is the act of supporting our existence by translating our thoughts into reality, of setting our goals and working for their achievement, of bringing knowledge, goods, or services into existence.” What am I trying to achieve? How am I trying to achieve it?
6. Personal Integrity : Integrity is the integration of ideals, convictions, standards, beliefs – and behaviour.
When our behaviour is congruent with our professed values, when ideals and practice match, we have integrity.
When we behave in ways that conflict with our judgment of what is appropriate, we lose face in our own eyes. We respect ourselves less.

3. Read the following passage and write a summary in not more than 1/3 of its length : 5 marks
Speech is of two kinds, formal and informal. We present formal speech methodically, whereas informal speech is often spontaneous. In most cases, the presenter of a formal speech gets time to plan, organize, rehearse and even memorise and speech, it is quite common these days to use audio-visual aids to make presentations. Computers and LCD projectors are handy in making effective presentations. Presentations are made in forums such as conferences, workshops, meetings and even classrooms. This type of speaking closely resembles the written form of language. Although it is often stated that spoken language is not written language spoken out, in the case of presentations, the language has to have the characteristics of written language. For an effective presentation, matter and manner are both very important but the content has a slight edge over the manner of delivery.

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follows : 5 marks She made the nation swell with pride, every time she stepped on to the track. She gave unalloyed joy to her answer: when she became the first Indian woman to make it to Olympic final. Usha’s greatest moment was also the most shattering in her life as she was pushed to the fourth place in the 400 meters hurdles final at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The Romanian Christina Cojocaru won the bronze medal. Usha lost by an agonizing l/100th of a second. But every Indian household acknowledge the sense of achievement, though it fell short of India’s first Olympic medal from the track.
